... of our performance of JCS [For the nine billionth time, all the info, date, times, tickets is at this link -- http://www.radianttheatre.org ]

[livejournal.com profile] maxomai came to the Gresham Little Theatre on Saturday night while Vergil, Gyelle, Bernie, and Brian from Lyceum, Inc. were in the audience Sunday afternoon. All said the show kicked major boo-tay. I also got to meet several friends, squeezes and relatives of the other cast members too who felt that we all did a really fantastic job.

All the while, there have been levels of growth among the staff and cast. Notable was our ability to pull together in such a frustratingly limited amount of time; HAiR had five months to prepare, we had only two. And within three days of performing in front of a live audience, today (Sunday) was when it all gelled. Even the brass section seemed to have it (mostly) together.

Mine was getting comfortable with the limits and the range of my voice. Today was the first day I was able to comfortably hit the high note in "Everything's Alright", which was the source of frustration with myself. I used my "opera voice" instead of my "rock voice" and was more successful. Also moving around the space a lot during the aria "Gethsemane" diminished my ability to have enough lung power to scale that mountain of a two octave B-flat minor scale, which is what that aria is. I found out that walking and not running helped significantly to ascend effortlessly.

Dan (Peter in the show) is getting more comfortable with not rushing the downbeat (yay!) Molly nails her solos every night (yay!) The Soul Girls and Priestesses are moving more fluidly (w00T!)

But of course, it's difficult to not get emotionally involved in such an intense opera. Thursday night was about a violent as Chad (Simon) ever got with the Roman guards while the Apostles made a human chain to protect me from them before I broke it up. Such aggression! Friday and Saturday night I've noticed a few Apostles in tears during JC and Judas' breakup (and it is very convincing when Colin and I perform together). Those tears, my co-stars told me, was not acting. And maybe was it me, but Tiger just could not bring herself to demand death to JC.

Next weekend in Gresham promises to be solid. Then we invade Portland, expecting everyone but Willamette Week to like us... as usual.

Saturday night, Maxomai took KanDo and I to the Rose and Raindrop for a celebratory drink for my performance of my rock opera. While we were walking in, [livejournal.com profile] ariche, [livejournal.com profile] gleibinger and H. were walking out after having a few celebratory drinks for their rock opera, Rite of Luna! I heard y'all did a killer job too!

Max treated us to Chocolate Raspberry stout, which max and I got into a tete a tete about sweet and bitter aftertaste. I still assert the notion that the aftertaste is not bitter if your savor it; it is chocolate and raspberry as a beer! A fucking stout even! Thanks Max!

You know one thing I like about hanging out with Max? The way we bounce The Funny off each other. Saturday night should have been videotaped.

I fell asleep in [livejournal.com profile] kando's Kia on the way back from Gresham, only to pass out completely when we got back. But with perfect timing after two hours of slumber, [livejournal.com profile] starwolf67called to let me know she was booking train tickets from the final weekend of JCS and will be spending the weekend here at the Ranch apartment. Wheee! Now all I have to do is secure one ticket for her for that weekend (and I should find out soon -- I have two comp tickets coming to me)

Reminder: the current issue of Just Out has the Stephen Blair interview I did from three weeks ago. And a quick FYI, I'm only two degrees of separation from Eartha Kitt via Stephen. Remember, the magic number is three.
